# Lore: how Abdlmu'tii started

By Abdlmu'tii (@abdlmutii) · https://mutii.me/lore/

This is the long version. The one that doesn't fit on a CV, with the parts I usually skip.

## The phone (the start)

Every line of my first code was typed with my thumbs. Tutorials assumed a keyboard I didn’t have, so I learned to read code before I could really write it.

I didn't start with a laptop. I started with a phone, a LIMITED INTERNET and a lot of stubbornness.

Hi

## Letters (alongside)

Next to the code there was calligraphy. Ink, reed pens and a lot of ruined paper.

It taught me that the stroke you can’t see still shapes the letter. I write code the same way now: slowly, and for the part nobody looks at.

## Replit (2022 — 2023)

Then a real team. At Replit I fixed Nix packages until they loaded in a second and a half instead of four.

I talked to Arab developers who had never heard of it, ran giveaways on the Hacker plan, and helped on the first prototype of Ghostwriter, before Copilot was everywhere.

## The communities (2023 — 2024)

Freelancers around me had nowhere to talk about clients, rates and horror stories. So I started r/EgyptianFreelancers.

A year later I did it again with r/Egypt_Developers, to get away from the Facebook developer slop. It turns out most of what I do is building rooms for people to talk in.

## Growth (2025)

nsave came to Egypt with its credibility on the edge. I built the referral system, got Reddit and search talking, and earned trust back in a community that was scared.

The same year I started Qimma, by myself, from the phone kid’s instincts. It passed a thousand participants and three sponsors in under three weeks.

## Abjad, and now (2026)

The communities kept drowning in the same questions. So I started abjad.wiki, the first open-knowledge wiki in Arabic, and wrote the first guides myself.

Now I speak at GDG about all of it, and I’m still the kid with the phone. Just with better tools, and a lot more people in the room.

That’s the lore so far. The next chapter is still being typed, probably with my thumbs.
